A Sydney man, aged 19, has been charged with making a serious online threat to the life of Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who is set to visit Australia amidst heightened security concerns. The arrest comes in the wake of an antisemitic terrorist attack at Bondi Beach, Sydney, which occurred this past weekend. The young man, Darcy Tinning from Newtown, is accused of posting a death threat against an 'internationally protected person' on social media last month. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) arrested Tinning at his residence, seizing a phone and drug paraphernalia. He has been charged with one count of using a carriage service to make a threat to kill and has been denied bail by the police. The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team, established in October 2025, is leading the investigation. The NSI was set up to combat threats against the Jewish community. President Herzog's visit is expected to spark widespread protests, with the NSW Police implementing temporary restrictions in the wake of the recent terror attack. These restrictions, extended for another 14 days by NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon, prohibit rallies in the CBD and eastern suburbs. The authorities are taking these measures to ensure the safety of the public and the visiting dignitary.
