The Ohio State Buckeyes have pulled off a remarkable double signing, securing commitments from not one but two talented cornerbacks in a single day! A remarkable feat that has the college football world buzzing.
First, they welcomed former Alabama cornerback Cam Calhoun, a significant addition to their roster. But the story doesn't end there. Just hours later, the Buckeyes landed another commitment, this time from Georgia's Dominick Kelly. Kelly, a highly-rated prospect, decided to join Ohio State after entering the transfer portal on Wednesday.
Kelly's decision comes on the heels of Georgia's recent signings of two defensive backs from the portal, perhaps influencing his choice to seek new opportunities. As a true freshman at Georgia, Kelly saw action in 61 snaps and was expected to make an impact. He played in 10 games this season, recording three tackles and three pass deflections.
While he may not be an immediate starter for Ohio State, Kelly has the potential to be a valuable rotational player and develop into a future cornerstone at the position. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 pounds, he fits the mold of an outside cornerback with the versatility to move inside if needed. His performance in the 2025 season earned him a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 58.2, with notable marks in run defense (63.2) and coverage (57.3).
Kelly's mindset and attitude are just as impressive as his physical attributes. He shared his philosophy on success with Dawgs247: "No matter what you do, you've got to stay level-headed. That's the key to excelling at this position. When I make a great play or give up a big one, it teaches me to stay grounded. You can go from celebrating to being scolded in an instant."
At Ohio State, Kelly will have the opportunity to learn from experienced cornerbacks like Jermaine Mathews and Calhoun, as well as Devin Sanchez, who is projected to start next season.
But here's where it gets interesting: Kelly is just one of 15 transfer portal additions for Ohio State this offseason, including notable players like tight end Mason Williams, long snapper Dalton Riggs, and defensive lineman John Walker.
In high school, Kelly was a highly regarded prospect, ranked 374th nationally and 38th among cornerbacks in the 2025 class by 247Sports. He even reclassified from the 2026 class to get a head start on his college journey.
So, what does this mean for Ohio State's future? Will these new signings propel the Buckeyes to new heights, or is this a risky strategy? Share your thoughts below!
